Literature Review

The first intellectual output is the Literature & Practices Review. This specific activity started on the 1st of July, 2018 and finished on the 30th of September, 2018. All partners of the program (University of Thessaly, University Pompeu Fabra, CAI, Municipality of Thessaloniki, Arsis) were actively involved.

The objective of this output was the thoroughly investigation the scientific literature about:
• mobile youth, NEETs, young precariat, and mobile youth transitions
• informal and non formal learning
• Youth Work
• Recognition and accreditation
• Socio-cultural Events and youth

The review brings the project team at the cutting edge of the field. Also, highlights the significance of this research area. Furthermore, it enables the design of the other intellectual outputs of the program, such as the ethnographic research (O2), and provides a solid theoretical pool for the interpretation of the research data. Moreover, this specific literature investigation notes any limitations or deficiencies or gaps in the relevant field that need to be filled in. What is more, it helps to introduce relevant terminology and provide definitions to clarify how terms are to be used.

The main aim of this review is to influence policy makers, counselors, NGOs, Youth workers and teachers’ attitudes on social and educational policies and to develop a framework for further research, training courses and skills certification. Particularly, a Youth Mobile Transitions theoretical framework is proposed, where the concept of mobility is combined with the concept of transition. Both ‘mobility’ and ‘transition’ are perceived as non-linear, reversible and multi-directional. This combination enables a move away from traditional ideas of transition and builds a more global research orientation towards ‘transnational youth mobility studies’. The Youth Mobile transitions framework enables an understanding of the different kinds of mobility and inequalities of youth mobility and transitions. Also, brings together migration studies and youth studies.

The impact of the activity in this output is measured by the critical approach and the clarification of the gaps of the relevant literature and also the specific declaration of our own contribution in the field.
