Youth on the move: Social inclusion through informal and non-formal learning

The focus of the conference is on social inclusion of disadvantaged mobile young people through informal and non-formal education. Effective education of displaced, disadvantaged, and marginalized young populations should be based on informal and non formal learning models that add to formal education and stand on the values of mutual acceptance and understanding, intercultural sensitivity, solidarity, cooperativeness, and on the right to cultural and linguistic diversity. Exploring the differences as well as the similarities between countries and localities and how young people experience and deal with their own situation, culture, work and education lie at the heart of this conference.

We invite abstracts from experienced as well as young and precariously employed researchers, youth workers, and teachers, concerned with informal and non-formal education, the sociology of youth, and youth studies in general. Although presentations and discussions will mainly revolve around youth mobility and social inclusion through informal and non-formal learning, participants are welcome to discuss theoretical and practical implications of work on precarious youth on the move.

Presentations can be related to the following areas:

  • Youth mobility and transnational mobile transitions.
  • Youth from vulnerable social settings: Young precariat, NEET, Refugees, Migrants.
  • Social Inclusion of young people via informal and non formal learning pathways
  • Youth work and inclusion
  • Socio-cultural Events and youth participation: skills and competences development, empowerment, resilience and inclusion

The papers will be selected according to relevance to the areas of the conference.

The conference will be organised around short presentations (20 min max) with space for open discussion.
